WEAPONTESTER
About

A simulator, not a shooter.

WeaponTester is a free, browser-based educational tool. Users build a precision rifle from real parts, pick a cartridge, and test their loadout against virtual steel and paper targets at distance. The point of the exercise is to understand external ballistics — drag, drop, drift, atmosphere, twist, and how every component decision changes the outcome on target.

Who it's for

Long-range shooters who want to A/B different loads without burning ammo. New shooters who want to internalize how MOA, MIL, BC, and twist rate relate. Reloaders curious how a 10-grain projectile change shifts a trajectory at 800 yards. PRS competitors looking for a quick mental model. And anyone who finds ballistics math beautiful.

What it isn't

It is not a violent video game. There are no human or animal targets. No "kill" mechanics, no enemies, no scoring beyond technical accuracy (group size, velocity at distance, time of flight). The framing is the same as a chronograph or a ballistic computer: a tool for learning.

The math

We use a Modified Point Mass (MPM) trajectory integrator with G1 and G7 standard drag functions, ICAO standard atmosphere with corrections for temperature, pressure, humidity, and altitude, and the Litz approximation for spin drift. Output validates against published JBM Ballistics tables to roughly 1% at standard ranges. Where we approximate, we say so. If a number looks wrong, file a bug — we'll fix the math, not the marketing.

How it pays the bills

The site is free. Some real-world parts in the catalog link to retailer pages — if you click through and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We never inflate specs to favor a sponsor; the published BC is the published BC, regardless of who pays for shelf space. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Safety reminder

Simulation is not training. If you're new to firearms, take an in-person class with a qualified instructor. For real-world reloading, never use data from a website (this one or any other) without cross-referencing published manuals from the powder and bullet manufacturer. Treat every real firearm as loaded, always.
